Water Into Wine is an Australian Theatre Show...

Water Into Wine was produced by the Magnormos Music Theatre Readings Program in which new or less well known musicals are given a rehearsed public reading. The show was presented October 14 – 16 at Theatreworks starring Ian Sandercoe, Judith Roberts, Kristen Keam and Sarah Hamilton.

Water into Wine music and lyrics are by Craig Christie and directed by Craig Christie, Aaron Joyner and musical direction by Vicki Jacobs.

The show is based on actual stories from women on the land in the Sunraysia district of North Western Victoria over the past 100 years. This musical drama explores the hopes and aspirations of farming families and their ongoing relationship with the Murray River.  Many families were transported by their menfolk who dreamed of dragging crops out of the harsh landscape.  The stories are spread over generations and are presented as a series of snapshots rather than as a narrative, each short story being augmented by song.  Water into Wine is a one-act musical for four strong performers (1 male and 3 females).

Water into Wine premiered in February 2000 at the Mildura Arts Centre Amphitheatre, Victoria and starring Shirley Bowie, Jesse Curran, Brendan Hanson and Helen Healy and the Silverwater Choir.
Followed by Community Theatre, Murray Bridge, South Australia in 2002, Magnormos Music Theatre Readings Program, at Theatreworks in Melbourne, Victoria in 2004 and showcased in OzMade Musicals in 2005.
